Let me just start out by saying that,
I think I may have shot myself in the foot!
..........................................................
Last week Christian got invited to go duck hunting by his friend, Erich. He asked if I minded if he went and I said, Of course I didn't mind, and encouraged him to go. So, he got up last Thursday morning, just before daylight, and met out on Erich's land. I woke up slightly as Christian was leaving and could just sense the excitement coming from him as he gave me a quick goodbye kiss.
I didn't hear from Christian for a while, until I got this picture text a couple hours later. And not too long after that Christian got home, practically skipping like a happy, giddy young boy.
~
He began telling me all about his first hunting experience......
He said it was absolutely FREEZING outside but none of them cared much. (It had been in the teens that morning!)... He said that he wasn't as terrible of a shot as he thought he would be since he hadn't shot a gun in such a long time... He said that he actually shot a good share of the ducks shown in the picture, for it being his first time... He said that Erich is even more of a crazy country boy than he thought (and seemed happy about it ;))... He told me of how Erich's dog would go and retrieve the ducks and had to go into the cooold pond but they shook the water off and were just fine with it... He tried to tell me what kind of ducks they shot, but he wasn't real sure if he was saying the names right and I certainly had no idea either... He told me of how Erich would mess with him about how he shouldn't look directly at the ducks or he'd scare them off, and he bought it for a moment, until he realized that he was just messing with him :)...

And then he said it...........
Something that I wasn't sure if I was excited to hear him say or was dreading hearing him say......
He said that
"He loved it. He was hooked. And couldn't wait to go again.".....
And that's when the thoughts of, "With all the shooting that Christian did that morning, I think that I'm the one that may have actually shot myself in the foot by encouraging him to get into hunting if he wanted to!" ;)
But if he enjoys the hobby then I guess it'll all be worth him disappearing for a few hours every once in a while.
~
It didn't take but a couple hours later before Christian was asking if I minded that he went again that very next morning. And I said, Yes of course, just as long as he would be back in plenty of time to take me to my wisdom tooth surgery.
I do appreciate how the guys warned him that if he wants to go too often that the wives may nix it and start to not be so happy about them going... so, thanks for clearing that up for him guys, so I didn't have to. :)
.....................................................................
That next morning came around, and he was even more excited this time. I could have sworn that I heard him pound on his chest as he was leaving the house... or maybe that was just my imagination of what guys do to prepare themselves for doing "manly things". :)

That morning, Christian had another first...
He watched Erich (aka Emeril) fillet a duck, with nothing but his knife and bare hands, while Christian videoed it. And then it was Christian's turn to take matters into his own hands... literally. Bryan videoed Christian doing it and did a great job of cheering him on.
When I was watching the video, I wasn't sure if I was suppose to be proud or grossed out... To be honest, I was a little bit of both! And then immediately asked if he had washed his hands yet! :)

..................................................
Erich took the ducks home and marinated the meat for a couple days. I kept hearing that duck meat is not the greatest tasting or textured meat in the world, but we were all going to have some anyway.
~
Christian and Sam grilled up some pepper and bacon wrapped duck and duck fajitas (and also some chicken for the fajitas, just in case).
~
Mason, and the other kids, seemed to really like it.
Here, Mason has a mouthful of it and is also holding up a piece to show me, in the same hand as his toy.
...............................................
It's been a fun, new experience watching and hearing about Christian's new hobby. He is already set up to go again this week. He is enjoying this time with his guy friends and I'm enjoying seeing him be so excited about it.
As for the duck. To every one's surprise, it was actually pretty good. No one is exactly sure why it was better than when they have had previously, but we were all glad that it was!
